Its been a while hasn't it?

So much has happened at the Sigmon house in the past few months. Maddi is keeping us busy as ever! On top of school and work... life just never seems to slow down.

Phil began helicopter school and LOVES it! He flies about three times a week and just cant stop talking about helicopters. He has lost over forty pounds of weight so that he will be able to fly.
He flies this tiny orange helicopter. His instructor is blown away by how fast he is learning. Phil learns in an hour what it has taken others to learn in five hours. We are so proud of him.

I am just learning how to be a mom. I am starting up school again on January 4th. I'm really excited to go back and finish my degree. I have been getting to know Maddi and hopefully I'm teaching her how to do things properly.

Maddi is getting so big. She will be 6months old on December 16th. I can't believe that time has gone by so fast. Her biggest accomplishment to date is eating solid food. (well mushed up food). She loves her carrots. The first time she ate them she would scream for more between bites. We couldn't spoon them in fast enough! Maddi has also learned how to roll over which has made her a little bit more mobile. She loves to stand and she loves to sing songs. Maddi also has four beautiful teeth. They are still really small right now but I'm sure she will have a mouthful soon.

The plan is to be in Colorado for Christmas. We are looking forward to the break from Rexburg for a while. It will be nice to spend time with family and relax.

Month One

It is nice to be with Maddison on our own. Can you believe she is almost one month old? Phil and I are learning so much about parenting and life. We have had quite a few long nights. Maddison has developed a terrible case of gas. She burps and farts just as well as the rest of us!! We are also starting to learn what Maddison likes and dislikes.

She HATES to have her diaper changed. She wails from the second you start to take her diaper off until the second you put an new one one. Literally, the moment you stick the diaper back on she stops crying. It is kinda funny. Lets not even talk about wiping. She turns red in the face every time you wipe! The entire neighborhood knows every time we change her diaper. (sorry about the 3am changes) :)

She LOVES bath time. After the initial frustration of having her diaper taken off, she loves the warm water. Maddi puts her head back and her arms straight out and just lays in the tub. Sometimes she almost falls asleep. I think having her hair washed is her favorite part. When you scrub her head she closes her eyes and just looks so happy. Such a typical girl!!

We visited the doctor yesterday. Maddison is now just over 8lbs! She has grown so much since she was born, but still fits into newborn size clothes! She is learning to lift her head up, and she is making eye contact (i think). When we burp her she insists on lifting up her head off your shoulder and looking around. The doctor also said that she could sleep for up to 8 hours at night. Hopefully she will listen to him!!! Wouldn't that be so nice!

Phil is learning to run on 6 hours of sleep. Luckily he loves his job. Phil works at CBI Offroad in Idaho Falls. Basically what he does is build car parts for four-wheeling. If you know Phil, you know that he LOVES to four-wheel and work on his jeep.

I am re-learning how to live and function. It seems like simple things like showering and eating have to be scheduled and planned. But its worth it. Maddison is so great. We are the luckiest people in the entire world!!

Visitors

Maddison has had a lot of visitors since she was born. Megan and Sam came to visit the first day she was home. It was great to see them and catch up. Megan made her amazing pizza. It was super delicious.

Mom came as soon as she could. She was able to stay with us for about two weeks. It was so great to have her here to help us. She cooked, cleaned, and stayed up all night with me and Maddi. She taught us so much. I wish she could come back!!! Dad was able to come up for a few days as well. He took a plane, a train, a car, and a bus to get here. It was great to spend time with them.
Phil's family also came to visit Maddi. They came over the 4th of July and spent the week visiting beautiful Rexburg. Even though they had quite a bit of bad luck with the car and the camper we all had a great time.
We went to the Rexburg parade and had a great time. It was nice to see everyone and get out of the house for a while. We had a great time visiting with everyone and we can't wait for everyone to come back in August for Maddison's baby blessing.

June 15th - 19th

Maddison Jean Sigmon arrived on June 16, 2011 at 10:30 am weighing 6lbs 10oz and measuring in at 18 inches long. She is so cute and wonderful! Everyone says she is a "good" baby. We are so lucky and blessed.
But first things first.... everyone asks about the story so I'll tell it again. We were just getting used to being pregnant when I began to have health problems. My blood pressure began to rise to dangerous levels and I was showing signs of preeclamsia which is where the placenta detatches from the wall of the uterus and the baby begins to lose blood flow. Naturally we were concerned. The doctor decided that it was time to induce labor.

Here we are 39 weeks pregnant. Four days before Maddi was born. On Wednesday June 15th we arrived at the hospital at 8pm where we settled in for a "restful" night. Yeah right! I could not get comfortable in the hospital bed. I kept bumping off the medical equipment and the nurse had to come in every 20mins or so. They used a little pill called cytosine to begin labor.

Phil was so excited to go! He carried all the bags, pillows and baby car seat.

I was given the most beautiful hospital gowns while I stayed there. This one has little paisleys all over it! At about 3:30 am I felt my first contraction. Phil was dead asleep so I got up and walked around the hospital for an hour or so. I looked at all the pictures on the walls and talked to a bunch of nurses. Everyone was so nice! At 5am I greeted a crowd all coming for scheduled c-sections. At about that time I was wishing I was in their group! My doctor came to check on me at 8:30 am and he was surprised how fast my labor was progressing. He ordered me an epidural and it arrived at 9:15 am. That was the longest time of my life! I was afraid the anesthesiologist would not come in time. I told the nurses that they needed to hurry because the baby was coming, but they did not believe me!

Phil thought I was SOOO funny on an epidural. And boy did it feel good. It is the most awesome thing I have ever felt in my entire life. I would totally recommend it to a friend!

By 10am I was ready to push. I gave the nurse a "test push" and Maddi's head crowned! The doctor was amazed. I pushed five more times and Maddison was born at exactly 10:30 am! Everyone was shocked at how quickly my labor went. My doctor told me I should write a book! I had a total of seven hours of labor time. I think the Lord knew that if it were any harder I probably would never do it again!

Here she is. 6 lbs 10 oz

Check out another awesome flower print hospital gown! We had a great experience at the hospital. We had a steak dinner and all the fixins to celebrate!! Everyone was so nice. The second we put Maddi into her car seat she fell asleep! Phil drove home so carefully. He drove the back way home from the hospital and went five under the speed limit the entire way. We are so happy to have Maddison home with us.

NEW BLOGGER!!

So here it goes! I am creating a blog for the first time in my life. Hopefully I can find something interesting to post. I will probably start with Maddi's birth and continue on from there. Thanks to everyone who helped us bring Maddi into the world. Phil and I are very excited to be parents!
